Traktor Scratch Duo – Better Than Serato Scratch Live and Only $350???

Native Instruments recently released Traktor Scratch Duo, a bare-bones DVS system for DJs that want to mix on two turntables or CD players with music stored on their laptop. Traktor Scratch Duo doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of Traktor Scratch Pro, it more closely resembles Serato Scratch Live. But, while Serato Scratch Live is $539 ($699 with the SL-3), Traktor Scratch Duo is only $350!

I’ve been a Serato DJ for years and am very pleased with my DVS system of choice, but if Traktor Scratch Duo was available back when I purchased Serato, there is a good possibility that I may have chosen that instead!

I would like someone ‘neutral’ to tell me the truth.
I am on the verge of buying either NI or RANE (Abelton is far too complicated for my simple mind).

I want a side-byside comparison of Serato Scratch Live, Serato Itch vs. Native Instruments Traktor Scratch Pro, Traktor Scratch Duo. I personally don’t care what the price difference is. I only want high quality sound, a practical layout, intuitive learning, the ability to customize the layout/appearance (if need be) and, above all, I want the software to be rock solid (as much as humanly possible).

What is more important to me is what DOESN’T Duo do. compared to Pro. And, what DOESN’T Itch do that Live does.

Is there anyone neutral (un-biased) out there that can carry this task out? I’m sure potential buyers all over the world would love to know this information.

    Thanks in advance :)

Personally i was using Virtual DJ software for some years (but i’ve also tried mixvibes, deckadance, djdecks, vtt, and other software).
I’ve never had problems with it but when i’ve used for a while traktor scratch pro i falled in love.
First of all it’s truly a PROFESSIONAL product, not made for home users only. It’s rock solid, fully customizable. It has a wonderful midi and audio engine..nothing to say, if u are not interested in video mix i think it’s the best.

    A comment regarding this sentence:

“Traktor Scratch Duo doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of Traktor Scratch Pro”

If u are not a turntabilist with good scratch skills, that “bells and whistles” used in the right way makes the difference between a “i’m just able to beatmatch 2 vinils” djs and creative artists that truly make something with the music and not just let the songs play
peace…and play the bells with moderation

a friend of mine he isnt a DJ but works for a production company. From what his DJ friends have told him which he has told me, duo is much less of a headache than serato. Serato has been the industry standard for awhile but from what Ive read, some well known DJs are jumping off the serato train and going duo.

Well Duo is basically NI’s version of serato the differences are you get the highest resolution vinyl with duo and a 24 bit sound card for much cheaper than sl- 3. scratch pro has four decks and and incredible 4 in and 4 audio out sound card. i would recommend pro if money is not and issue, but it is for me so i got duo and its amazing, this is coming from a former serato user.

@Corey. Less of a headache? Wtf? Are you seriously joking. How does cueing up, and listening for sound a headache? Your friend that works in a production company is fail, no actually his dj friends.

Well you’ve probably already made your decision but having used both – first Serato for several years and now Traktor about a year – they both have pluses and minuses. For starters, Serato is a lot shorter of a learning curve, so go with that if you think difficult interfaces are hard for a “simple mind” ;) But Traktor is incredibly versatile and offers the possibility of effects and other things that Serato just can’t do. Then again, you can do some things easily with Serato (e.g. the “censor” feature, or Loop Roll) that are probably doable but very difficult to figure out how to do in Traktor.

  8. DJ DIGS says:

Can you save cue points in both. So that you just load up a track during a set and the cues are ready to go?
