Mixvibes DVS

Mixvibes DVS

As most of us already know, when you purchase a digital DJ program, you can expect to shell out some major dollars, and you can also expect to have some sort of hardware to bridge the gap between the DJ software and your computer. Well, Mixvibes DVS claims to be able to provide a quality DJ software solution without the extra hardware, and at an affordable price.

The Mixvibes DVS Pro Vinyl Scratch Software Package will cost you about $279 and includes the program, 5 timecoded vinyls, and 2 CD’s. The program works using your existing soundcard, so you plug your turntables directly into your PC. To me, that sounds like a problem waiting to happen, but I have not tried the software out yet, so I shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

The software has an impressive list of features, including video scratching (I immediately noticed the the website said “video scratching” and not “video mixing” – does the software only support the playing of small video clips?)

I’ve never used it personally but I’ve seen it in action and was impressed to the point that I’m going to buy it. The scratches and juggles were clean and pretty much dead on latency wise. It’s a European program which is just really now starting to get some serious pub here in the US. It appears to have the total package (midi, plug-ins, effects, video-scratching, and you can record). Plus, the price is love, it’s a little less than Torq($279). The problem with Mixvibes Pro DVS is it doesn’t come with a soundcard like Serato, Traktor Scratch, Virtual Vinyl, or Torq. They have a regular DVS version that doesn’t do video that you can buy bundled with one for $299 but then you have to spend another $139 to upgrade to the Pro DVS version(which is honestly still cheaper than just about everything else out there). It just seems like common sense to package a card with the premier version. It sucks to have buy extra stuff or a lesser edition and then upgrade to get the full functionality but that’s why it’s priced so low or at least that’s how they explain it or their website.

i got this last march and the only thing that i dont like about this software is that it’s a bit fiddly and the text on the interface are not so clear especially when using smaller laptops or monitors. spot-on synchro though and i love the color, contrast and the effects. simple, but a bit behind my mixmeister.
